Kids walking Tongariro Crossing

by Caroline
(Cambridge)

Hi - we decided a year ago that we wanted to walk the Tongariro Crossing.

On New Year's Eve we did it! A great way to say goodbye to one year and bring in the next.

Our two children, ages six and nine years old, and they walked the whole 19.4km's. The views were amazing, the weather was amazing and the kids were amazing. The terrain is so varied, it keeps the kids interested.

Thoroughly recommend this walk. Looking for the next one for this year.

Inspirational Children Hiking in Tongariro National Park
by: Caroline

Wow, 19.4km is a long hike for most adults but for 6 and 9 year old children it's a journey to be remembered. Particularly in such a stunning and varied landscape like the Tongariro National Park in New Zealand. I am totally impressed!

I think you and your kids are an inspiration to other families and have demonstrated what is achievable with a young family.

It's great to see some feedback like this about walks in NZ, and I bet you are looking forward to having many more experiences like this together.

All the best, Caroline
