New Zealand - A breath of fresh air after polluted Thailand...

Just a stones throw from Auckland City - The Waitakere Rainforest - My home :)

Just a stones throw from Auckland City - The Waitakere Rainforest - My home :)

I have been living in new Zealand for 10 years... Recently, I went on a 6 week holiday to Thailand...

What I discovered there was that the beaches are crowded and polluted... The coral is bleached and dying... There are stray animals everywhere... prostitutes... and people trying to con you into buying something...

It was absolutely exhausting... every.single.second.

On arrival back in New Zealand I took a deep breath of the clean air... I smiled and felt that this is my home... This is my paradise!

Within days of being back home I was walking in the beautiful Waitakere ranges forest on my back doorstep. I was daydreaming along the empty beaches of Bethells, Piha and Anawhatta...

I was detoxing in my paradise...

How lucky am I that my paradise is just one step outside the front door?

Ahhh New Zealand - I love you!

New Zealand or Thailand
by: Caroline

Hi Carol

I think you should go to New Zealand. It is a once in a lifetime experience, the country is unique, the people are welcoming, travelling around is easy. I have a friend who is 70 and currently touring the country for the third time!

Best wishes, Caroline

I can't believe you have been to both Thailand and New Zealand. We were trying to decide which one to go to. We are in our early 60's. What do you think.

Fresh air and freedom!

Hi Shaye

Thank you for posting your article and excellent photo... I know just what you mean.

You have described exactly what it feels like when you arrive in New Zealand, whether returning home or at the start of what will no doubt be a memorable holiday in a unique country.

The reverse is also true for many people (not all) on returning home from a visit to NZ. They land back in their own country and the first things they often notice are pollution, litter, and crowds of people rushing around frowning and ignoring each other!

Whereas in New Zealand people are on the whole really friendly, welcoming, and genuine! If someone in NZ says 'how are you today', you can be sure they do really want to know how you are!

Very best wishes to you in your paradise :-)

It?s a shame about your Thailand holiday experience.
