Hokitika Wildfoods Festival

Hokitika Wildfoods Festival is an annual event on the West Coast of the South Island attended by locals and visitors in the New Zealand autumn.

This food festival, that’s all about trying out a wide variety of wild food from New Zealand and other countries, has been so successful that Hokitika Wildfoods Festival has been running for over 30 years.

Wild Food and Drink

The kinds of wild food you will see on offer range from Possum kebabs to Venison, Whitebait to Huhu Grubs, wild pig, and a range of meats that you may not have tasted before such as alligator and kangaroo.

There is also a beer tent on the festival site along with one or two other drinks stalls where you can taste something different.

Entertainment

There is live music all day at the Hokitika Wild foods Festival from buskers to the NZ Army Band.

Every year many Hokitika festival goers take part in the Feral Fashion contest by dressing up in whatever they like, to look as wild as they can. There are designated Festival camping sites at Sunset Point, and Westland High School. There are a few campsites in and around Hokitika to choose from if you want to be on the edge of town when the festival finishes.
